Frequently Asked Questions

What causes sensitive teeth?

Sensitive teeth can result from enamel erosion, gum recession, or tooth decay exposing the underlying dentin. Other causes include brushing too hard, using abrasive toothpaste, teeth grinding, or consuming acidic foods and drinks. Sensitivity may also arise after dental procedures like whitening treatments. Maintaining proper oral hygiene and using desensitizing toothpaste can help manage sensitivity.

Why are my gums bleeding?

Bleeding gums are often a sign of gum inflammation caused by plaque buildup along the gumline. This can lead to gingivitis, the earliest stage of gum disease. Other causes include improper brushing or flossing techniques, vitamin deficiencies, certain medications, or hormonal changes. Regular dental cleanings, proper oral care, and addressing underlying issues can help prevent gum bleeding.

What causes bad breath?

Bad breath, or halitosis, is commonly caused by poor oral hygiene, which allows bacteria to accumulate on the tongue, teeth, and gums. Other causes include dry mouth, gum disease, certain foods, tobacco use, or underlying health conditions like sinus infections or digestive issues. Maintaining good oral hygiene, staying hydrated, and visiting our practice regularly can help prevent and treat bad breath effectively.

What causes gaps in teeth?

Gaps in teeth, also called diastema, can occur due to genetic factors, misaligned teeth, oversized jaws, or habits like thumb-sucking in childhood. Missing teeth, gum disease, or tongue-thrusting can also create gaps. Some gaps are purely cosmetic, while others may affect oral health. Our orthodontic treatments, like braces and clear aligners, can help close gaps and provide you or your child with a beautiful, symmetrical smile.
