When should I begin taking my child to the dentist?

Children should ideally begin visiting the dentist when they are around one or when their first tooth grows in. This helps them get used to visiting the dentist and allows our team to catch any problems or potential problems and treat them early. If your child is older and hasn’t seen a dentist yet–don’t worry! We’ll be happy to work with them at your earliest convenience.

How often do kids need to see a dentist?

Children should visit the dentist as often as adults, or twice per year, unless our team recommends otherwise. While your child’s baby teeth will fall out and be replaced by adult teeth, keeping their baby teeth and gums in good shape really goes a long way in helping them have healthy smiles throughout childhood and into adulthood.

What can I do about my child’s dental anxiety?

Our lobbies have fun play areas for kids to explore while they wait for their appointment, and you’re welcome to arrive a little early to let them play and get used to being in our office. We can also give them a quick tour of our practice to show them that there’s nothing to be afraid of. It’s important to speak positively about dentistry to kids, and our team always works at their pace to ensure each child is comfortable and has a great experience with us.
