Because Invisalign & Sure Smile are excellent options for many patients who are seeking orthodontic treatment, it’s easier to name a few things that would make someone not a good candidate versus what would make them a good one. Invisalign & Sure Smile are typically not recommended for children, as their jaws and teeth are still growing and developing. Patients are also responsible for wearing their clear aligners around 22 hours per day for the treatment to be effective, so anyone who is very forgetful or can’t commit to the process should consider metal braces instead. Finally, patients who have severe orthodontic issues may need to utilize traditional metal braces, and patients who need a lot of dental work done typically need to have that taken care of before they can begin a Invisalign or Sure Smile treatment plan.
The process begins with an initial consultation, where we will determine if Invisalign® or Sure Smile is right for you, then create your custom treatment plan and take impressions of your teeth. Once your first aligners have been created, we will ensure they fit properly, and then it will be up to you to follow the treatment plan accordingly. You will wear each aligner for two weeks, and we will ask you to come in for appointments every so often so we can assess your progress and provide new aligners to take home. Once your treatment plan is complete, you will receive a retainer to wear at night to keep your smile beautiful and straight!
In addition to being more discreet than metal braces, Invisalign & Sure Smile treatment plans tend to be shorter on average as well. Average treatment times are between 12 and 18 months, but some patients wear their aligners for closer to two years, while others may only need them for a couple of months. At your consultation, we can give you an approximate idea of how long you will need to wear your clear aligners.
