How many appointments does a root canal require?

Once it has been determined that you will need a root canal treatment, an appointment will need to be scheduled to clear out the infected tooth pulp. Then, the tooth will need to be cleaned and sealed and a temporary dental crown will have to be placed if you are choosing to use a traditional crown. However, Riverstone Dental Care offers same-day CEREC® dental crowns, which means your entire root canal treatment can be completed in one convenient appointment! Receiving a same-day crown also helps prevent infections from occurring, since the permanent crown is placed right after the canals are sterilized.

How will I know if I need a root canal?

One of the most common signs that a patient needs a root canal is a persistent toothache or pain around the tooth. Symptoms can range from overwhelming to hardly noticeable, which is why we recommend patients visit our practice in Coeur d’Alene or Post Falls regularly for dental exams. Signs that you may need a root canal treatment include:

  • Moderate to Severe Tooth Pain
  • Sudden Sensitivity to Hot or Cold Foods
  • Tender or Swollen Gums
  • Darkening of Tooth Color
  • Loose Adult Tooth

Do I have to get a root canal?

Patients are sometimes tempted to put off receiving a root canal because they are not one of the more enjoyable procedures within dentistry. Root canals have a reputation for being very painful treatments, but fortunately, that is not the case anymore thanks to modern advancements in the dental field. If a root canal is avoided for too long, a dental extraction could become necessary, and the infection could spread through the neck and face and cause serious consequences. If you have any questions or concerns about your treatment, our team is available and would be happy to assist you.
