Teeth whitening is a quick and easy way to enhance the appearance of your teeth and your overall appearance as well. Over-the-counter products can work well enough, but if you really want your teeth to look noticeably whiter, professional teeth whitening is the way to go! After we discuss your ideal shade of white and what kind of whitening tray you would like to utilize, our team will take it from there. How does professional teeth whitening work?
Our office offers one-visit whitening sessions, which can have your smile looking much brighter in approximately one hour or less! Teeth whitening treatments involve applying highly-concentrated teeth whitening gel into a custom or one-size whitening tray. Custom trays help to ensure that the whitening gel coats each tooth evenly, but they do require impressions to be made, whereas one-size trays can be used right away. Both options are excellent choices for anyone who wants a whiter, brighter smile.
Does professional teeth whitening cause tooth sensitivity?
One of the benefits of choosing a professional teeth whitening product over a store-bought whitening toothpaste or whitening strips is that your chances of experiencing tooth sensitivity post-treatment are reduced. If you know your teeth tend to be sensitive, it may still be a good idea to avoid eating or drinking very cold or hot food and drinks for a few days after receiving a teeth whitening treatment to avoid triggering any underlying sensitivity. Very sweet desserts are also known to cause discomfort for patients who typically have sensitive teeth.
How long does professional teeth whitening last?
Professional teeth whitening treatments can last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on a few different factors. Patients who frequently drink beverages that are known to stain the teeth, like tea, coffee, and red wine, may notice that their teeth do not look as white for as long as they had hoped. Tobacco products also cause the effects of teeth whitening treatments to fade faster than they would otherwise. If you ever become unhappy with the appearance of your smile, however, you’re always welcome to schedule a follow-up visit with our team!
Contact UsDoes tooth whitening affect fillings, veneers, or crowns?
Dental restorations like dental crowns and veneers are quite stain-resistant, so while they do not stain like natural teeth do, they also cannot absorb things like teeth whitening gel. If you are interested in achieving a whiter smile, we highly recommend scheduling your teeth whitening treatment before having a restoration placed so that your veneer or crown can be made to match your newly brightened teeth. Patients can also have their restorations removed and replaced with new restorations that match their ideal shade of white.
How much does tooth whitening cost?
Since professional teeth whitening services are cosmetic treatments, many insurance plans do not offer any type of coverage. In an effort to help our patients achieve their smile goals, our office accepts payment plans through CareCredit®, and members of our in-house dental plan can receive a 20% discount on their teeth whitening services as well. For questions and concerns regarding the cost of your professional teeth whitening treatments, please visit our financial page or contact our friendly front office team.
